Parking in Guangzhou’s city centre is limited and expensive. Most residents use the excellent public transport system.
On-Street Parking
- Metered parking: ~5–15 CNY/hour in central areas
- Hours: 8:00–21:00 (some zones 24-hour metered)
- Payment: Mobile via Alipay/WeChat or parking metres
- White/yellow lines indicate permitted parking; yellow solid lines = no parking
Parking Garages
Department stores, hotels, and office buildings have parking:
- Shopping centres: 5–10 CNY/hour (free with validation at higher-end malls)
- Hotels: 10–30 CNY/hour (guests often free)
- Monthly parking: 500–1,500 CNY/month in central areas
- Residential parking: Usually included with apartment rental or purchased separately
Tips
- Driving in Guangzhou’s city centre is challenging — use the metro
- The city enforces parking restrictions with cameras and patrols
- Fine for illegal parking: ~200–500 CNY

- For the Canton Fair, book parking in advance — demand is very high
- Electric vehicle charging stations are increasingly common in garages
